Canon R5 Firmware Upgrade: Is 400 Megapixels Worth the Hype?

Hey folks, remember when I gave the Canon R5's 400-megapixel JPEG upgrade a whirl? Well, since that test run, guess how many times I've used it? A big fat zero!

Got me wondering if anyone's actually putting it to good use, or if we all just wanted to see what a 400-megapixel pic looks like in-camera. If you remember, I wasn't exactly doing backflips over it. So, for this short and sweet blog, here's a recap of my experience:

  • The camera takes 9 photos and stacks 'em, meaning your subject's gotta sit still. Doesn't leave much room for action shots, right?

  • You're gonna need a tripod because of this stacking thing.

  • On the plus side, my low-light shots did come out less noisy.

  • But, brace yourself for a 4 to 5-second wait from when you hit the shutter to when your camera's ready to shoot again.

So yeah, 400 megapixels sounds super cool, but in reality? It's kinda limiting. I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out where it'd be really useful. Curious to hear your thoughts!
